Senior citizens visited Rotherham College’s Dinnington campus on an Age UK Rotherham trip, taking part in a workshop making pot plants.
For some it was a trip down memory lane - Ray Bennett, 91, from Kiveton, studied at the campus when it was known as the Chelmsford Mining and Technical Institute in 1936.
Ray said: “It’s changed a fair bit, there was only the one building back then where the Clock Tower is and there were only three courses - industrial, commercial and domestic science.
“I ended up working in the steel industry in Sheffield so the college saved me from a life down the pit.”
Lecturer Ian Marshall said: “It’s really nice to do something for people in the community, we’ve done it for a couple of years now and everyone really enjoys it. The best comment I’ve had is that the session was better than a tea dance.”
