Taster session to encourage girls to be future engineers

GIRLS wanting to know more about engineering, technology and careers in creative industries are being invited to a taster event in Sheffield.

The session next Tuesday takes place at the Creative Lounge in the Workstation on Paternoster Row in the city centre from 6pm till 8pm.

It will highlight the opportunities to study, train and gain employment in those sectors when the new University Technical College Sheffield opens next year.

Girls from Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Bolsover and Bassetlaw and their parents will have the chance to meet the new UTC principal and employers.

There will be updates on the developments and a chance to ask questions.

The UTC Sheffield is a new type of college for 14- to 19-year-olds, and the first of its kind in Yorkshire, opening on Shoreham Street in the city centre in September 2013.

The curriculum will have input from employers and provide academic and vocational qualifications for two sectors - advanced engineering and manufacturing, and creative media industries.
