The University of Sheffield Students’ Union has been voted the best in the UK for the third year running in the National Student Survey 2014.

Having recently undergone a £20-million refurbishment, the union, on Western Bank, Broomhill, was awarded a 94 per cent overall satisfaction rate, an increase of one per cent from last year.

Yael Shafritz, Students’ Union President, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that the Students’ Union is rated number one for the third year in a row.

“Our student focus means that whilst we regularly rank number one we’re always looking to do more to create a better and more inclusive student community that Sheffield students love to be a part of.”

The University of Sheffield received an overall satisfaction rate of 89 per cent, three per cent above the average, which puts it joint first in Yorkshire with the University of Hull.

It was rated the highest nationally for Music, Opthalmics, German and Scandinavian Studies, Information Services and Landscape Design.

Library services and IT resources were also rated well, achieving over 90 per cent.

The University was also rated number one for student experience in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey in May.

Professor Anne Peat, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Learning and Teaching at the University of Sheffield, said: “The National Student Survey provides valuable information upon which we can enhance the student experience.

“I am pleased that once again our Students’ Union has scored so highly.

“The £20 million refurbishment was clearly an important investment.”

The survey is carried out annually by UK undergraduates who are in their final year at university and 72 per cent of students from the University of Sheffield responded to questions.
