School run eased as new car park opens

PARENTS who drive their children to a Barnsley primary school can take advantage of a newly created car park from this week.

The facility has been created close to Burton Road Primary as part of continuing improvement works around the A61 in the Wakefield Road and Burton Road area.

Current road access to the Wickes DIY store at Old Mill Lane has been closed and instead vehicles are being diverted to a newly constructed access road off the roundabout on the new bypass.

The road also leads to the new car park next to Wickes, which has also been created to promote greater use of Dearne Valley Country Park.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesman for development, environment and culture, said: “Parents of children who attend Burton Road Primary will be advised to use the country park car park at school opening and closing times.

“It is linked to the footway on Burton Road by a new path which provides full access to the school.”

Work will soon begin to widen Old Mill Lane to provide a new bus lane and junction.
