ROTHERHAM is again the top-ranked authority in South Yorkshire in the 2012 GCSE tables – with students now performing above the national average.
The town is 59th in the country, up from 97th, thanks to a pass rate of 60 per cent.
The best performing schools are Aston, Wickersley, St Bernard’s and Maltby, while only Clifton has failed to meet the Government’s floor target.
In the A-level tables meanwhile, Rotherham is in 108th place – ahead of Barnsley in 141st, but behind Doncaster which is in 75th place.
Performances by Barnsley’s schools will continue to cause concern, with the authority remaining in 147th place, third from bottom and the same as last year.
Carlton Community College, Dearne Advanced Learning Centre and Shafton Advanced Learning Centre meanwhile are all in the list of the bottom 200 schools nationally.
The figures increase the likelihood of an emergency inspection by Ofsted, which last week began a crackdown on underperforming authorities by targeting Derby.
Even Barnsley Academy, seen as a shining light after being hailed the most improved school in Yorkshire, slipped back this year by a disappointing 13 percentage points.
Penistone Grammar remains the top performing school in the authority, followed by Holgate, Darton and St Michael’s.
Doncaster slipped two places to 123rd place in the national rankings, with a pass rate of just under 55 per cent.
Balby Carr is now rated as one of the 200 most improved schools in the country, making steady progress to 48 per cent.
But De Warenne Academy in Conisbrough is in the bottom 200, with a pass rate of only 29 per cent.
The town’s top-rated schools are Hill House, Hayfield, Hungerhill, Hall Cross and McAuley.
Derbyshire is the 95th best authority with a pass rate of 57 per cent.
