CHARITABLE youngsters have smashed their fundraising target for Red Nose Day - collecting over £1,000 so far.

Palterton Primary School in Chesterfield have done a full week of events for Comic Relief.

A bake-off, where tasty creations were sold to parents, staff and children, plus a sponsored silence, and wacky fancy dress day all boosted the pot.

Staff also got involved, with three teachers eating as many samosas as possible in 15 minutes as youngsters guessed how much they could consume.

A governor also had his legs waxed before a special assembly handed out prizes for the best costumes on Thursday, with the winners chosen by a representative from the Derbyshire Times.

Simon Fletcher, teacher at the school on Back Lane, Palterton, said: “As it stands, the total amount of money raised so far is an astounding £1,024.38!

“We managed to smash our original target of £300 - what an achievement considering we only have 84 pupils.”
