Hair styles for a snip at college

HAIR and beauty students at a Sheffield college are set to prove they are a cut above the rest - at a new salon which is open to the public.

The salon is now open for business at Peaks College on Waterthorpe Greenway in the south east of the city, offering discount treatments to customers.

Peaks, which is part of Sheffield College, has expanded its range of courses offering academic and vocational qualifications to young people in the area in partnership with local schools.

The hair salon is open for appointments on Tuesdays from 10.30am until 1pm and on Fridays from 9.30am until noon. Beauty and nail treatments will also be launched in the near future.

College manager Fiona Charlesworth said: “We are a small and friendly campus with some fantastic new vocational facilities that help our students gain the employability and enterprise skills they need to secure jobs.

“The new salon will enable our students to develop their skills in a real working environment, and offer great value treatments to the public.”

A £5.5 million college extension, completed in September 2011, includes a new motor vehicle workshop, learning resource centre, refectory, extra science laboratory, enterprise hub and performance spaces.
