It’s not quite the Tour de France - but a new challenge created by a Peak District preschool could become just as regular an event on the cycling calendar.
Staff and volunteers at Bradwell Preschool held a 50 mile race taking in seven challenging hills and over 2,300 metres of climbs in the heart of the national park.
Titled the Bradwell Hill Billy, the inaugural fundraising event for the thriving village play group attracted almost 100 riders, some from as far away as Norfolk and Kent.
The race culminated in a climb up Winnats Pass and afterwards competitors enjoyed a wind-down at Bradwell sports ground with hot soup and home-made cakes.
Co-organiser Colette Holden said that riders had commented on the good organisation of the event, with excellent route signage and helpful marshals.
“We rely entirely on fundraising and donations are already considering repeating the event next year,” she added.
