Barnsley libraries host a summer of fun for youngsters

Young bookworms will find lots of exciting activities to get involved in at Barnsley libraries this summer.

There will be arts and crafts sessions, including the opportunity for children to make their own mythical monsters, cardboard dragons and magical wallets.

Other arts and crafts activities will include loom bands, painting sessions and jewellery making.

Youngsters are also reminded to sign up to the annual Summer Reading Challenge at Barnsley libraries. This year’s event has a ‘mythical maze’ theme and challenges children to read six books of their choice, collecting stickers and other rewards along the way.

Coun Jenny Platts, Barnsley Council’s cabinet spokeswoman for communities, said: “Our libraries have a fantastic selection of games, stories, arts and crafts activities that aim to keep children entertained this summer.

“They are also a great way for youngsters to try new activities and meet new friends.”

A full listing of all the events taking place is available by visiting www.barnsley.gov.uk/childrenslibraryactivities.

Spaces are limited so parents are advised to book places for children by contacting their local library. There may be a small charge for some activities.
