Phones at Sheffield Hallam University were red hot on A-level results day – with more than 12,000 would-be students trying to get through in the first few hours.
Staff made hundreds of offers for places on courses yesterday.
Some science and health courses filled up quickly.
However, a spokeswoman said the majority of courses still had places available.
She said: “We also had some students walk directly into our admissions office with their results.”
The clearing phone line is open again today from 7am until 7pm, then from 10am until 4pm tomorrow and again next week.
