PRUDENT officials have turned around predicted budget problems forecast for Sheffield Council during the current financial year which ends in March.
Last summer, it was revealed the council could possibly overspend by more than £7 million.
The problem was mainly due to predicted savings on several contracts not having been agreed in time to take effect during the 2011/12 year.
But officials have managed to find a total of £12m of further efficiencies meaning the council will now overspend by £4.8m instead.
All but one department underspent.
The extra money has already been used in the council’s plans to help offset £55m spending cuts necessary over 2012/13, which will result in 550 job losses.
