Sheffield Council chiefs have been accused of ‘stupidity’ after giving a quote for disease testing that was 40 times higher than a private contractor’s.
Council environmental health workers provided Legionella testing at Bolsterstone toilets for Stocksbridge Town Council at a cost of £520 during 2012-13. But the quote for 2013-14 was £4,680.
Keith Davis of Deepcar, and a former Stocksbridge town councillor, said: “Alternative quotations were sought and a like-for-like service was offered for £120. What about a bit of entrepreneurial skill? I ask Sheffield Council, when will this stupidity end?”
Sheffield Council declined to comment.
