The topic of the World Student Games again reared its head but it is fascinating to learn that the cost of hosting it was approximately £10.4 million (Mar 23).
In 2001 a letter appeared in The Star stating that £10 million had been taken out of the Housing Revenue Account for the student games and I saw no subsequent denial.
This would have been sufficient to almost fully fund the same and explain why tenants suffered such poor conditions for so long because of lack of repairs and modernisation. Ultimate demolition came as a result of that neglect.
If that is the case, surely it was an unfair burden to place on one section of the city.
