Convictions for littering soar

PROSECUTIONS for littering Doncaster’s streets nearly trebled in the first month of this year.

Magistrates imposed 41 fines and charges totalling £12,572.89 last month, following prosecutions brought by Doncaster Council. The number of people prosecuted compares with 14 in January last year.

Council cabinet member for neighbourhoods Councillor Cynthia Ransome said: “The increase just shows how serious we are taking the issue of littering.

“We spend millions keeping the borough clean and tidy and the amount we receive in fines is small in comparison to the cost of cleaning up after those who litter our borough.”

She added taking people to court for an unpaid fine was always a last resort but the council was clear it would not tolerate littering and environmental crime.

Doncaster residents convicting of littering were: Sherry Booth, of East Avenue, Woodlands; Suzanne Sarah Hotham of Austen Avenue, Balby; David Manson of Wivelsfield Road, Balby; Kayleigh O’Driscoll of Stafford Road, Woodlands; Clare Margrave of Arnold Crescent, Mexborough; Margaret Robinson of Ridge Road, Highfields; Wayne Philip Coulter of Central Avenue, Woodlands; Anthony Butterworth of Balfour Road, Bentley; Deanne Burton of Woodfield Road, Balby; Lee Stewart of Penistone Street, Doncaster; Diane Watson of Victoria Road, Edlington; Scott David Simmonite of South End, Thorne; Abigail Davies of Martin Wells Road, Edlington; Barry Nicholls of Quarry Lane, Woodlands; Toni Annette Edwards of King Edward Road, Tickhill; Scott Jurgens of Baines Avenue, Edlington; Susan Otter of Elm Road, Auckley; Dianne Swindell of Hawthorne Grove, Bentley; Kim Taylor of Barnsley Road, Moorends; Adam White of Willow Crescent, Thorne; Claire Bladen of Anelay Road, Balby; Amantha Bramhald, of Eastgate, Moorends; Patricia Denise Cooke of Shaftesbury Avenue, Intake; Susan Fisher of Tranquil Walk, New Rossington; Barry Furbank of Exeter Road, Wheatley; Andrew Gillin of Sargeson Road, Armthorpe; Joanne Jeeves of Liverpool Avenue, Wheatley; Debbie Lee of Land Ends Road, Thorne; Lukasz Krawczyk of Nutwell Lane, Armthorpe; Craig Norman of Melton View, Barnburgh; Peter Turner of Wembley Road, Moorends; Vicky Wilmott of Mills Court, Thorne; and Charlene Young of Briar Road, Armthorpe.
