Conman steals OAP's sentimental notes
A CONMAN pretending to be a council worker tricked his way into a South Yorkshire pensioner's house and stole her purse - containing two £50 notes given to her by her late husband four years ago.
The 84-year-old victim, who kept the notes for sentimental reasons, allowed the bogus caller into her home on Redbrook Road, Gawber, Barnsley, on Sunday.
The trickster claimed he was from Barnsley Council and needed to take some measurements for a new porch.
He said he had forgotten his identity card but had been invited round by a family member.
The conman only left when the home owner became suspicious and telephoned her daughter.
She then discovered her purse had been taken.
The man was white, aged between 20 and 30, around 6ft tall, of a medium build, clean shaven with mousy brown hair.
He was wearing a black tracksuit top and bottoms with a red logo or writing on the front of the top and brand new white trainers.
Anyone with information should call the police Intelligence Department on 01226 736030 quoting BX 193.
