Condolences: Francesca Anobile

Top student Francesca Anobile, aged 16, from Mosborough, died in a sledging accident on Febuary 3.

The former Westfield Sports College pupil was airlifted to hospital after the huge makeshift sledge she was in careered at up to 50mph down a sheer slope, smashed through wire fencing and slammed into a wooden boundary at Rother Valley Country Park.

Francesca died in hospital.

Westfield headteacher Sue Simmons praised Francesca, who was studying for A-levels at Norton College Peaks Centre, as a brilliant student who was aiming to go on to university at Oxford or Cambridge .

She said: "She was a gifted and talented girl who was an absolute joy to teach.

"You could not have asked for a better student and what has happened is absolutely heartbreaking.

"She was bubbly and outgoing and put a lot back into her local community working as a young leader teaching sports to children from local primary schools. She was a lovely young lady."
