Community groups benefit from funds
AN ALLOTMENT club, church, boxing club, families of drug users and an Indian cultural organisation are among South Yorkshire groups receiving hundreds of pounds each from the Co-op's Community Fund.
The biggest payment, of 1,500, is to be spent on facilities for disabled people at a community allotment in Darton, Barnsley.
Also in Barnsley, St Luke's Church, Grimethorpe, is getting 650 to fund a series of glass-making workshops with a professional artist at Milefield and Ladywood schools.
Grants of 500 are to be handed to Sheffield's Burngreave Amateur Boxing Club to fund free sessions and open days, to Barnsley Beacon support service for families affected by substance misuse, the Gujarat Association of Barnsley to fund cultural events and to Maltby Friends of Respite to buy toys for children at the Mencap Active Leisure Service in Rotherham.
Rotherham Breast Cancer Support Group receives 300 to pay for refreshments at its drop-in centre, while players at Grimethorpe Youth Football Club will have new kit next season thanks to a 250 grant.
All Hallows Choral and Music Group was given 195 to stage a concert in Harthill.
