People living close to what will become a £77 million waste treatment centre in South Yorkshire were given a tour of the site.

Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster councils are working together with private company Shanks to create the facility on Bolton Road, Manvers, which will turn rubbish into fuel, rather than having it sent to landfill.

David Packham, chairman of the Barnsley Doncaster Rotherham Waste Partnership’s community liaison group, said: “We very much welcomed the invitation to visit the site and see for ourselves progress being made.”
