A SHEFFIELD community left devastated by the 2007 floods is holding events to mark the fourth anniversary of the disaster.
A flood awareness day is taking place at the Winn Gardens estate, in Middlewood, which was inundated with water when the River Don burst its banks.
The event has been organised by housing management firm Sheffield Homes, Groundwork Sheffield, Sheffield Wildlife Trust and the Don River Stewardship Company.
It takes place on Friday, June 3, on the playing fields at Winn Gardens – with activities in the morning focusing on understanding the risks and dangers of flooding, and how local people can be better prepared.
In the afternoon, there will be sessions led by the Rover Stewardship Company about efforts made to manage the Don and lessen the risk of further flooding – such as clearing debris and blockages from the river, plus its conservation work.
