Work has started on a £29,000 project to install a lift at Sheffield’s Burton Street Foundation community centre.
The project has been funded by the foundation, which raised about £3,000 at its annual Christmas craft fair, and a grant of £19,750 awarded by The Veolia Environmental Trust.
The lift at the Hillsborough venue is in regular use, providing daily access to services such as support for adults and children with learning and physical disabilities.
Without the lift, services would be inaccessible to many users.
Dave Clarson, foundation managing director, said: “It is great to see the work start.
“Soon we will have a smoother, more reliable and spacious lift providing access to all our floors and the events held there.
“We cannot wait to see it operational.”
