A DEDICATED resident and a housing worker in Barnsley have been shortlisted for two national awards.

Elsie Smith, of Grimethorpe Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, is one of three finalists for Most Outstanding Resident, while Clair Wright, management company Berneslai Homes’ Equality and Diversity Champion, is shortlisted for Board Member of the Year.

Both honours are to be handed out at the National Federation of Arms Length Management Organisations’ fifth annual awards, given to reward housing management firms for performance.

A Berneslai Homes spokeswoman said: “Clair has been nominated for her role as Equality and Diversity Champion and her approach in embracing the values and demonstrating them to residents, officers and fellow board members.

“Elsie has been nominated for the difference she makes within her community, organising social activities, campaigning on behalf of her neighbours and working with Berneslai Homes to help them make changes on behalf of all residents.”

The winners will be announced at a ceremony held at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, on July 12. No other representatives from South Yorkshire’s housing management companies have made the shortlist for any of the honours.
