Comic book artist's creations for horror festival

A ZOMBIE robot Richard Hawley, a Psycho-lit Showroom cinema and an eye-monster...

It's a horror-struck zombie invasion - created by Sheffield's B-movie style comic artist Jim Connolly as part of The Showroom cinema's Celluloid Screams horror festival.

And while the contents of the images may be disturbing, they're probably not all that unfamiliar - the flyers have been distributed all over the city.

Jim, from Millhouses, a self-confessed horror flick fanatic, said: "There are references in the images. The monster full of eyes is a reference to the Sheffield band I-Monster, and the rockabilly is a reference to Richard Hawley!

"There's also a man in the middle - that's the guy in charge of the bill for the festival at The Showroom, he's wearing a T-shirt the main man in Evil Dead wears. The name on the T-shirt is the name of the supermarket where he works."

He admitted: "About one in a million people will know that, and it's sad to say I knew it."

Jim's style has evolved from a fascination with B-movies and comic books - though he also does the artwork on children's educational websites. "And you can't really have a blood-thirsty vampire on those!" he laughed.

Jim is also releasing a new comic called 'Moronoid', inspired by a pal's Japanese girlfriend who misheard the word instead of "more annoyed", containing a collection of short stories.

The anthology-style comic was put together with fellow Sheffield graphic artist Anjan Sarkar, and will be available later this month. The Celluloid Screams horror festival runs from next Friday to Sunday October 25 at The Showroom.
