TAKE their advice - there is nothing as nice as messing about on the water.

Not that staff from Dearne Valley College in Wath upon Dearne were messing about when they were crowned PHASE Worldwide dragonboat champions at Manvers Lake in the town.

The 11-strong DVC Griffins crew beat off competition from 13 other teams to lift the title.

Gable Events organised the event to help raise money for PHASE Worldwide to improve the lives of people in remote Himalayan communities.

Over the 200m course, DVC Griffins posted the fastest time of the day, of 53 seconds over the windy lake course.

Ian Philip, team captain, said: “A fantastic team performance on the day that showed real DVC grit and team work to win.

“We got better with each race.”
