Colleen's 4,000 mile journey to see Def Leppard

WOULD you go to the ends of the earth to see your favourite band play?

Def Leppard devotee Colleen Lapinski did when she booked her 20th wedding anniversary trip.

As soon as she heard her favourite band were playing a concert in their home city she booked tickets for the gig - 4,000 miles away.

Colleen, aged 42, and her builder husband Robert, 44, from Winnipeg, Canada, travelled to Sheffield for the band's comeback show at the Hallam FM Arena.

Colleen said: "I noticed on Def Leppard's website they were doing a show in their home town and with it being my 20th wedding anniversary I bought tickets to the show and planned a trip to England for a week. When I told my husband we were going to England for our anniversary he thought I was crazy!"

Colleen, a nurse and mother of three teenage children, has been a fan for 20 years and had seen the rockers play twice before in Canada.

She said: "I have been a fan since I heard Love Bites back in the 80s."

The couple stayed at the city's Novotel so they could visit the Sheffield sights and see the band's new plaque on the City Walk of Fame - unveiled the day before the concert.

Colleen said: "I thought the city was very picturesque and I loved the old buildings - we don't have old buildings like that."

Colleen, whose favourite band member is vocalist Joe Elliott, closely followed by bass player Rick Savage, said she was disappointed the band's set didn't last longer.

"I had a great time at the concert but I thought that playing for their home town they would be on stage longer. I definitely thought the trip was worth it. I want them to know they still have some very loyal fans out there."
