Club's fun walk just the trick
GHOSTS and ghouls were out in strength when kids from a weight loss club enjoyed a spooky fancy dress fun walk on Halloween.
Children from the Carnegie Club in Rotherham dressing up in scary outfits to complete a two-mile challenge at Herringthorpe Athletics Stadium.
They were celebrating being halfway through a 12-week programme funded by NHS Rotherham to help young people aged eight to 17 to lose weight.
As many as 60 per cent of the adult population in Rotherham is classified as overweight or obese - and NHS Rotherham is investing 3.5 million over the next three years to tackle the problem.
And a third of under 16s in the town - 14,000 youngsters - are overweight or obese and at risk of life-threatening conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.
The Carnergie Club programme aims to change people's behaviour and encourages families to make small but sustainable changes to everyday lifestyles including exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Youngsters and their families are encouraged to walk two miles each week and the spooky walk was a fun way for all the children and parents to get together and have fun.
Youngsters could walk, jog, or run as part of the challenge.
The event was also an opportunity for people to find out about Carnegie Clubs and sign up for the January programme. Call 01709 722555 to find out more.
