Two climbers were seriously injured on Stanage Edge when one of them fell, pulling the other down with them

Mountain rescue team volunteers called out to the incident on Saturday said a 25-year-old woman fell on Martello Buttress and dragged her climbing companion - her 53 year old uncle - with her.

The woman suffered a fractured pelvis and multiple facial fractures .

Her uncle suffered a head injury and a fracture in his lower back.

The casualties were treated by paramedic before being airlifted to hospital.

An Edale Mountain Rescue Team spokesman said: “A large group of other climbers on the crag quickly abandoned their own climbs and made themselves available to help with the delicate task of getting the

injured to two separate air ambulances. Their assistance was really valuable.”
