CAMPAIGNERS hoping to save a much-loved park cafe are being backed by Hallam MP and Deputy prime Minister, Nick Clegg.

The café in Whirlowbrook Park is due to close at the end of the month, despite residents collecting a 1,000-signature petition against the plan.

The council says the café will close as it is unable to find an operator prepared to run it as well as the main part of Whirlowbrook Hall, which is used for weddings and functions.

Mr Clegg called for officials to work with park users to come up with a solution that keeps the café open.
