City swimmers going for gold

SHEFFIELD swimmers with learning disabilities are preparing to take part in Hull’s 10th annual special Olympics swimming gala.

The event will see 148 swimmers from groups across Yorkshire taking part in 54 freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly races and six relays at the Beverley Leisure Centre.

The gala, organised by the Special Olympics City of Hull Swimming Group, will be held at the venue on March 3 for the third year running.

Fifteen groups have entered the swimming gala from areas around the region including Sheffield, Hull, Pontefract, Scarborough, Pudsey and Lincoln.

A team of six Special Olympics swimmers from GJVW Schiedam, in the Netherlands, will also be there to competing in the gala for the eighth year in a row.
