Sheffield’s ‘Mad Man with the Pram’ will run his 951st charity race tomorrow at the Great North Run.
John Burkhill has raised nearly £500,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after dedicating much of his life to raising money for the charity. The city legend said: “I’m now 76, but I am still pushing.
“I am going to keep trying to raise £1m.”
John, who has been awarded the British Empire Medal for his achievements, will sport his green wig and push his 55-year-old pram around the 13.1-mile route in Newcastle.
He said: “Macmillan does a wonderful job, not just by providing medical support to people affected by cancer but also providing emotional and financial help.
“I couldn’t do all this without the support of the people of Sheffield.”
The race begins at 10am tomorrow and will be broadcast live on BBC One.
