SHEFFIELD’S citizens are not doing their bit to help the environment – despite 50 per cent saying they want to be more eco-friendly.

According to new research from Future Friendly, Procter & Gamble’s consumer education programme, a quarter of householders leave electrical appliances on standby.

Less than a third make an effort to buy local produce, and only 38 per cent buy environment-friendly household products.

Amazingly, no one surveyed rode a bike instead of using a car.

But 77 per cent dry their clothes on a washing line rather than using a dryer.
