A Sheffield MP has called for a ‘wider debate’ on handing more power to English regions in the wake of the Scottish referendum.
Paul Blomfield, MP for Sheffield Central, said the ‘no’ vote should ‘open the door’ for a new settlement for UK regions.
He said: “When I was talking to people in Glasgow, I said Sheffield and Glasgow have more in common with each other than either city does with London, and we share their concern about the imbalance of power and wealth in our country.
“The vote should open up a much wider debate about devolving power to English regions.
“We need more say over the issues that affect our lives in Sheffield.
“And we need a fairer distribution of the nation’s wealth.”
