A MAN who died after he was dragged under the wheels of a vehicle and crushed in Spital Hill, Sheffield, has been named by police.

Frank Bowling, aged 56, from Castlebeck, Manor, died after he was hit by a red Nissan Cabstar truck which was pushed down the street after being struck by a white single-decker bus.

Police said Mr Bowling was hit by the Nissan, fell to the ground, and was pulled under the vehicle before being dragged along the road.

Officers are still appealing for witnesses to the incident at 4.10pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman said the smash happened outside an excavation and plant hire yard, 150m north east of Spital Hill’s junction with Savile Street.

The white bus is believed to have swerved to avoid a black Isuzu Rodeo Denver truck manoeuvering outside the yard.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail pending further inquiries.
