SHEFFIELD was a sea of red and white as revellers donned flags and fancy dress for the celebrations.
People got into the party spirit and also made a jubilant racket using horns and whistles to spur on the runners.
Horns and small England flags were the most popular items sold at William Newbold’s stall near the Peace Gardens.
William said: “People are really up for it tonight.
“This is the best and biggest torch relay I’ve been at so far, and I’ve been to six all over the country.
“I can’t believe how many people have been pouring in to the city they just kept coming from all directions.”
