CITY BUZZ: Celebrations will go off with a bang!

A parade of lights will fill Mount Pleasant Park this Saturday as the community of Sharrow comes together for its Autumn Carnival.

Families are invited to bring homemade lights, lanterns and glow in the dark costumes to join in the procession which will work its way all around the local area, as part of the annual festival, from 4pm.

There will also be a free drop-in family workshop earlier in the day at Highfield Adventure Playground, from 12-4pm, for those who still haven’t had chance to make their lanterns.

The multicultural carnival - featuring plenty of live music and dancing - gives families the chance to come together, have some fun and fill up with food before attending one of the bonfire events going on around the region later that evening – of which there are certainly plenty!

n Wentworth Castle’s parkland is open to visitors from 6pm this Saturday, for its traditional family Bonfire Night, with the bonfire being lit at 7pm and fireworks starting at 7.30pm. Organisers have warned that access is likely to be muddy so encourage tickets holders to wear boots and bring a torch. Call 01226 776040 to book your ticket - £9.50 per person or £36 for a family ticket.

n The Old Rec, in Handsworth, will start celebrations at 5pm until 9pm on Saturday, with the bonfire being lit at 7pm, followed by fireworks shortly after. There will be a bouncy castle and rides for kids, a licensed bar and a barbecue. Tickets cost £3 at the gate.

n The Cross Scythes, on Derbyshire Lane, will be kicking off their free-entry celebrations at 6.30pm until 11pm this Saturday, with fireworks, an outdoor bar and plenty of hot food.

n Cannon Hall Farm’s ‘Bonfire Night Spectacular’ is an all-day event on Sunday with ticket price covering farm admission, tractor and trailer rides and indoor and outdoor play. There will be tonnes of kids entertainment and a live DJ blasting out tunes before the bonfire is lit at 5pm and the fireworks kick off at 6.30pm. The event sold out last year so organisers are encouraging people to book their tickets early - £8.95 each, with under twos going free.

* Owlerton’s annual family Fireworks Spectacular will take place on Sunday at Owlerton Stadium, with a full race card of children’s entertainment and racing from 5pm, followed by a fireworks display after 8pm.

* A Guy Fawkes family night will be held at Phoenix Pavilion in Rotherham on Saturday, with lots of family games, music and food from 5pm until 11pm. Tickets are £3 per person and need to be pre-booked.

A night of spectacular fireworks will raise funds for Rotherham Hospice this Saturday, at the town’s Pewter Pot pub.

Doors will open at 6pm and live bands will take to the stage from 7pm. There will be a host of food and drink stalls and a charity raffle.

The headline act, The Crashers, will be on stage from 9pm.

A special children’s firework display, set to Disney classics, will open the annual Chatsworth Bonfire and Fireworks Nights this weekend.

There is a distinctly magical feeling to this year’s two-day event - on Saturday and Sunday - with music from Disney’s Frozen and live ice-carving by the award-winning company which created a huge ice installation for the hit TV series Game of Thrones.

The gates will open at 6pm and the lighting of the bonfire and the children’s firework display will take place at 7.30pm each evening, with the main firework display - including show-stopping grand finale - at 8.45pm, with the event concluding at 9.45pm. There will also be tasty bonfire food and drink and live bands and stilt walkers to keep you busy in between the bangs.

Tickets are £10 for children and £15 for adults on Saturday, and £8.50 for children and £12.50 for adults on Sunday. Visit www.chatsworth.org to book.

Each year, around 20,000 people turn out for the After Dark Firework Spectacular, held at Don Valley Grass Bowl.

Big John and the crew from Hallam FM will be taking over the main stage of what is undoubtedly Yorkshire’s biggest bonfire event this year to broadcast live with a host of competitions and entertainment.

The celebrations will kick off at 5.30 this Saturday and run until 10pm.

There will be a giant funfair, gigantic bonfire lit at 7.30pm, food stalls, music and - of course - the legendary fireworks display which will kick off at 9pm.

Advance tickets can be bought all week on 0114 2565656 or from Sheffield Arena at £11 for adults and £5.50 for children. From 5pm on Saturday, tickets will cost £12 for adults and £ for children.

Car parking is available next door at Sheffield Arena.

Bangless Fireworks!

If you don’t really like fireworks, or have young children or pets who aren’t comfortable with the big bangs, but don’t want to miss out on all the fun and festivities, don’t worry - as Walkley Ebenezer Church will be hosting its Bangless Firework Show this Saturday and Sunday evenings.

The party without too much pop will be held at the church’s Afch Hub and is a combined Halloween and bonfire party, featuring pumpkin carving, a ‘bangless’ fireworks display, fancy dress, music, food and dancing. Tickets for the event - from 4m to 7pm Saturday and Sunday - are £5 each.
