CHARITY begins at home, usually – but for Sheffield Lord Mayor, Coun John Campbell, his latest charity venture took him down to a curry house.

He was one of dozens of guests invited down to the Chutney Restaurant, White Lane, Gleadless Townend.

The charity dinner was arranged by owner Mothiur Rahman Shahin to celebrate the anniversary of the opening of the restaurant.

All the guests were treated to a slap-up meal and a donation was made to the Lord Mayor’s Charity.

Mr Shahin is now busy organising one of the biggest community events in Sheffield.

Sunday afternoon’s Baishaki Mela in High Hazels Park, Darnall, will bring together hundreds of members of the community.

It will feature singing, dancing, cultural shows and demonstrations as well as Asian cuisine to sample.
