Terry Palmer highlights the 32 LGBT MPs now in Parliament (Letters, May 19).
A Parliament that includes people from a wider range of backgrounds has to be welcomed. There was a significant increase in female and black, Asian and minority ethnic MPs and 64% of new MPs went to a comprehensive school. I note, however, that the Labour leadership contestants look likely to be all Oxbridge educated, as they all were in the last contest in 2010.
Too many MPs have never had a job outside politics and David Cameron surrounds himself with old Etonians. But there is hope – 20 year old SNP MP Mhairi Black’s last job was in a chippy.
