Chinese lion dancers a roaring success with shoppers - SLIDESHOW
IT was a bit different from the usual street entertainment of buskers and singers on Fargate.
Amazed shoppers came to a standstill as dancers performed dressed as two giant Chinese lions, in stunning costume which was mostly red and gold.
Passers-by were able to watch and even take part in one of the 60 performances by the lions, who also strutted their stuff in Barker's Pool, Tudor Square, the Peace Gardens and Winter Garden.
Lord Mayor Coun Jane Bird, who launched Saturday's performance, by members of Sheffield and District Chinese School, based on London Road, called the show "spectacular".
The Chinese dance was one of two events to conclude a week of events to promote dancing around the city. It was followed by a salsa dance in the Peace Gardens.
