Children in woods walk
A GROUP of South Yorkshire childminders banded together and took the children in their care on a walk around Wombwell Woods.
The walk was an opportunity for children to explore the woods, as well as have a healthy picnic along the way.
Some of the childminders in Wombwell, Barnsley, also attended Volunteer Walk Leaders training and learned how to lead safe and effective health walks.
Tracy Abnett, a childminder who attended the training, said: "I undertook the training as I was interested in ways the children in my care could get fit and healthy and learn about healthy lifestyles."
She added: "It is important that children learn about being fit and healthy and that they enjoy themselves as they are doing it."
The walk was part of the Barnsley Fit for the Future Walking Festival, an initiative designed to encourage Barnsley residents to take more exercise and make family time more enjoyable.
