Children grow their own fruit

GREEN-FINGERED young people are being given the chance to grow fruit in their school grounds.

Students and schoolchildren across South Yorkshire are taking part in Sheffield Wildlife Trust’s Fruit Full Schools project, which invited schools and colleges to plant orchards in partnership with local communities between 2009 to 2013.

Groups had to design their own orchard – growing three varieties of ancient local apples – and winning schools received £1,000 to enable them to bring entries to life.
