Childcare is biggest challenge parents face

The cost of childcare is a big worry for many families – the rising cost is one of the biggest challenges parents face. Worst of all it means many mums and dads simply can’t afford to work. This is not only bad for their families, it’s bad for the economy, too.

Therefore, I’m delighted to read that free childcare for two year olds is being massively expanded by Liberal Democrats in Government. Making sure all families, and mothers in particular, can afford to work is vital in helping to build a stronger economy and a fairer society.

A parent on a low income with a two-year-old will qualify for 15 hours a week of free early years education. These places are focused on helping families that need them most.

However, in 2014 this scheme will be increased to double the number of children eligible for support .
