Chiefs warn on advice fraud

Have your say

IMPOSTERS claiming to be from the Citizens’ Advice Bureau are preying on people with money worries in Barnsley.

CAB chiefs say scammers make cold calls offering ‘debt help’ in a bid to obtain personal information.

No genuine Citizens’ Advice Bureau would ever call people out of the blue offering to set up a debt management plan, says Barnsley CAB chief executive Pat Heath.

She said: “We made it very clear that no CAB adviser would ever phone or text someone out of the blue to offer debt management services. We would urge anyone to end the call as quickly as possible, never give or confirm any personal information, and to report it to Action Fraud and to the CAB.”
