Police patrols are being stepped up in Chesterfield following reports of anti-social behaviour on Beetwell Street.
It follows reports of groups gathering near the entrance to The Pavements shopping centre, with concerns about alcohol and rowdy behaviour.
Chesterfield town centre safer neighbourhood policing team officers have been carrying out extra patrols and dispersing those found to be causing a nuisance.
They have also been seizing alcohol from anyone found drinking on the streets.
Sergeant Nick Booth said: “Large groups of people can be intimidating to other members of the community. Street drinking, noisy or abusive behaviour won’t be tolerated.
“We have stepped up patrols and will using powers to move on groups of people causing anti-social behaviour.”
