Chesterfield Borough Council is urging residents in Brimington, Tapton and Hollingwood to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of an upcoming by-election.

The by-election to elect a successor to the Derbyshire County Council seat left vacant following the death of Walter Burrows last October on Thursday, February 5.

Residents will soon receive poll cards.

Huw Bowen, Chesterfield Borough Council’s returning officer, said: “It is important that residents in Brimington, Tapton and Hollingwood are registered to vote.

“Anyone who needs to register needs to make sure they have done so by Tuesday, January 20 or they will not be able to vote.”

The quickest and simplest way to register is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Alternatively, residents can contact the council’s elections team on 01246 345402 or email elections@chesterfield.gov.uk

Applications for a postal vote must reach the electoral registration officer at the Town Hall, Rose Hill, Chesterfield, S40 1LP by 5pm on Wednesday, January 21. This is also the deadline to amend or cancel a postal vote.

Applications to vote by proxy must reach the electoral registration officer at the above address by 5pm on Wednesday, January 28.
