Chesterfield brothers James Truswell and Paul Guy are entrepreneurs to watch...
The young businessmen have founded Vis Vires, a firm selling luxury ladies and gents timepieces which promote Chesterfield and Derbyshire right across the world.
Each watch is engraved with ‘Chesterfield, United Kingdom’ on the back and the brothers have named their flagship timepiece after the town.
They also sell a range of watches called ‘Devonshire’, ‘Chatsworth’ and ‘Thornbridge’ in honour of the stately homes.
“We’re very proud of where we’re from and it’s a pleasure to be able to promote Chesterfield and Derbyshire globally with our luxurious, minimalist, affordable timepieces,” said James, 21, of Unstone, and Paul, 33, from Brimington.
“We sell to customers all over the UK and the world, including America, Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the home of luxury watches: Switzerland.”
Vis Vires – which is latin for ‘power, strength, force’ – is headquartered in Newbold and the company’s products are designed in Chesterfield.
James said billionaire business magnate and Apprentice star Alan Sugar inspired him to set up his own firm.
“Since I was young I’ve always had a mind for business but I never had the money or knowledge to take it to the next level - so I studied books and saved cash while collecting potential ideas and our own brand of watches always stood out the most,” he said.
“I discussed the idea with my brother and that was the catalyst which created Vis Vires.
“Behind the scenes we planned and brainstormed, ordered samples and changed minute details until we were 100 per cent happy with our products - the process took about six months.
“My personal inspiration to succeed in business is great entrepreneurs like Alan Sugar.
“He started with a similar background to me and rose to become one of the greatest businessmen in our country and is living proof that you should chase your dreams and goals.”
James said he likes to connect with customers and is proud of the fact the company has a significant presence on various social media platforms, including nearly 13,000 followers on Instagram.
He added: “I believe we are creating a movement with our brand and have very big plans for the future.”
