A MAN accused of storing explosive chemicals, causing residents in Sheffield to be evacuated from their homes, has appeared in court.

James Curtis, aged 34, of Ridgehill Avenue, Intake, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court charged with two counts of possessing an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose.

Police have said the chemicals were consistent with those used in the production of Class A drugs.

Curtis was remanded in custody before a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court next week. A second man in his 60s was arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.
