Charity fashon show captivates our hearts
STRIKE a pose! Fashionistas flocked to Sheffield City Hall for a feast of fashion and dance at a catwalk show raising money for a local women's charity.
The show - Captivating: The Heart of Fashion - raised more than 25,000 for City Hearts, a residential programme for young women dealing with issues such as drug and alcohol addiction, self-harm, depression, eating disorders and unplanned pregnancy.
The evening also featured heart-rending stories from women who have been helped by the charity.
Sarah Jones, Emma Geddes and Deb Noble relayed their emotive real-life stories before holding their heads high to walk down the catwalk as new women.
The show involved some of the UK's and Sheffield's biggest fashion retailers, including Marks and Spencer, John Lewis, Yes Orange, Each to Their Own, and Roc Doll, brought together by top local stylist Natasha Lyons with hair by Conrad Blandford.
Students from Sheffield Hallam University's fashion design course also treated the audience to a range of flamboyant designs, including a dissolvable wedding dress which showcased the next generation of up-and-coming designers.
Rotherham street dance group Ice, who reached the finals of this year's Britain's Got Talent TV show, saved the day with a show-stopping performance after dancer George Sampson - a previous winner of the ITV contest - pulled out of the event just days earlier.
And Sheffield's very own Britain's Got Talent bellydancer Sophie Mei performed one of her famous routines, in between appearing as a model.
Siobhan Bullock, managing director of City Hearts, said: "Last year we hosted the fashion show at the Megacentre, but we had a vision to make this year's bigger and better - and it really was!
"I was amazed by the courage of the girls telling their stories.
"It took a lot of guts for them to walk out in front of people but they did us proud and really showed what this charity is about.
"The fashion show raised vital funds for us to be able to expand and offer more girls in need of help the opportunity to turn their lives around."
