ALMOST 1,200 visitors descended on Owlerton Greyhound Stadium for the dog racing track’s Ladies’ Day event – raising almost £7,000 for Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Women flocked to the venue dressed to impress, with many choosing to customise their outfits, hats and bags in a bid to scoop the prestigious Best Dressed title.

A fiercely-competitive catwalk contest was held to find the winner.

The evening also included charity raffles, fashion and beauty stalls, and a charity auction, in which a signed Wayne Rooney England shirt was sold for almost £200. The evening mixed glamour, fun and fundraising.

John Gilburn, managing director of Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said: “We were delighted to see so many people at this year’s Ladies’ Day. Great fun was had by all – and many of the outfits were show stopping. Weston Park is a very worthy charity and we were proud to help raise such an amount on the evening, and delighted to report the total raised even surpassed last year’s efforts.”
