A charity is quids in as Sheffield University student Emma Haslam takes a £1 challenge.

The 21-year-old speech and language therapy student will be living on £1 a day from today to raise money for a project in Bolivia.

Emma, who lives off Ecclesall Road, is heading to the country for 12 weeks to work on a project supporting adults with disabilities.

Speaking before the challenge, which ends at midnight on Monday, Emma said: “I will be drinking water, as I won’t be able to afford my usual cups of tea.

“My meals will mostly be rice, peas and maybe an egg for protein, if I can afford it.”
