CHANGES to housing benefits will affect South Yorkshire residents when they come into force from April.
Local Housing Allowance is being altered bringing an end to the extra payments of up to £15 a week which some claimants can receive if their rent is less than the allowance will pay for that size of property. People already receiving the money will continue to receive it until the anniversary date of their claim but it will not be available for new customers from April 1.
Local Housing Allowance will also be limited to the maximum four-bedroom rate – even when people are living in a five-bedroom property.
And the way the allowance is calculated is also changing with some recipients being given lower payments.
