Changes at Sheffield station to ease traffic problems

CHANGES to taxi and short-stay parking to resolve traffic problems at Sheffield railway station are beginning on Tuesday.

Short-stay parking will be available free of charge for up to 30 minutes at the nearby Q Park car park and not on the station forecourt.

Only black cabs and disabled motorists will be able to drive into the forecourt area, dramatically reducing the number of vehicles waiting in the area - allowing traffic to flow more easily.

The covered drop-off area is also being widened and extended so that two cars can pass each other. At the moment the area can be blocked as motorists wait for the car in front to drop off.

The changes have been agreed by Sheffield Council, East Midlands Trains and Q Parks. Longer-term improvements, including creation of more taxi ranks in the area, are planned.
